This Independence Day, I proudly pay tribute to Jacki Horwitz, a true-blue American epitomizing the heart and generosity of this great country. Oh. And her husband, too. His name is David.
I've known Jacki - and, by proximity, her significant other - for some 20 years. We met during my first week as an assistant features editor at the late Santa Monica Outlook. She was the paper's freelance theater critic and, with her usual cheer, appeared at my desk to drop off a story.
