Police: Homicides in L.A. At 40-Year Low

Summary


Helped by a steady decline in homicides to near-40-year lows, Los Angeles streets by some measures haven't been this safe since Eisenhower was president and American families watched "Howdy Doody" on black-and-white TVs.

Pointing to year-end crime figures better than at any time in recent memory, city officials credited more sophisticated law enforcement, more officers on the beat and improved community- police relations for the sizable drop in crime.
