My column on the assassination of Robert Kennedy brought several responses, like this one from reader John Honus: "It was interesting and very sad to read the remembrances of the two people quoted in your RFK piece and to see that actually being there was no less shocking as it was to receive the news thousands of miles away.

"I was stationed in Germany in 1968 and set for a tour of duty in Vietnam. I remembered thinking that Kennedy would end all the madness and stop the war before more died. It never happened and the madness marched along. I just hope that the Secret Service builds a strong shield around Barack Obama. This is a wonderful country but with far too many lunatics calling it home."
