Jury selection is to begin today in the trial of a man accused of parking his SUV on a railroad track and causing a January 2005 Metrolink derailment that killed 11 people and injured more than 180 others.

Juan Manuel Alvarez, now 29, is accused of parking his Jeep Grand Cherokee on the railroad tracks south of Chevy Chase Drive in Glendale about 6 a.m. Jan. 26, 2005, and then fleeing before Metrolink train No. 100 smashed into the SUV.
