Harbor-Ucla Facing 'Jeopardy'

Los Angeles County supervisors sparred with local health officials Tuesday over a state report that found the emergency room at County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is dangerously overcrowded, and expressed concern that yet another hospital was in jeopardy of closure.

Inspectors from the state's Department of Health Services looked at the Torrance-area hospital's emergency room Feb. 1 and said they would issue a citation of "immediate jeopardy" because of overcrowding and long delays. Among other items, they found that two patients complaining of chest pains were not examined "on a timely basis."
