Family members of a former Hawthorne man imprisoned for 14 months in the United Arab Emirates on terrorism charges were elated Monday after the foreign government decided to release him.

Naji Hamdan, 43, a former auto-parts dealer and prominent member of the Islamic Society of the South Bay, was convicted of looking at Islamic Web sites and other unknown charges but sentenced to time already served, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which took his case.
