More findings from a massive study that explored the effects of hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women showed that the risk of some cancers - in addition to breast cancer - remained after the women stopped taking the drugs for three years.
"That was a surprising finding, one we didn't expect," said Dr. Rowan Chlebowski, a researcher at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute near Torrance, who worked on the study.
