Carson leaders are poised next week to vote on placing a half- cent city sales tax before voters. The idea is to balance city spending and revenues by forcing consumers to fork over an additional $8 million to $10 million annually.

The idea is not only bad policy but it's ill-timed, patently unfair, anti-competitive and likely unnecessary.
