Electrical Fire Burns Lax Worker
A worker was severely burned today during an electrical fire at a Los Angeles International Airport warehouse hangar. The man, who is approximately 50 years old, suffered burns from his waist up, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman d'Lisa Davies.

After predicting the past four years that California will be able to avoid a downturn, UCLA economists now say the state may plunge into recession because of the ongoing financial crisis. "Worst case, we can go into a real deep recession," said David Shulman, senior economist at the university's Anderson Forecast, which for 50 years has analyzed and provided predictions on the California and U.S. economies.

Westchester Program to Aid Missing Students
Choirs will perform Thursday at Westchester Lutheran School to raise money to help search for the two students and their cousin believed abducted by their fathers in July. Students Alex and Zaven Silah and their cousin, Greg Silah, have not been heard from since their fathers, George and John Silah, failed to return them to their mothers following summer custody visitations.

Los Angeles pet owners have one week left to comply with the city's ordinance that requires most dogs and cats to be spayed or neutered by the time they are 4 months old. The law, which was signed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in February, takes effect Oct. 1.
Neon Art Exhibit On Display at Lax
Los Angeles World Airports, in partnership with the city Department of Cultural Affairs, announced a new exhibit Tuesday at LAX featuring neon artwork by artist Lili Lakich. The exhibit is in the customs area of the Tom Bradley International Terminal on the arrivals level and is on view for ticketed passengers. The exhibit is free and on display through Dec. 31.
Summer Shuttle Doubles Ridership
The free summer Beach Shuttle linking Playa Vista, Marina del Rey and Venice beach more than doubled its ridership this year, county officials said Tuesday. The shuttle, which runs Friday through Sunday and every other Thursday night between Memorial Day and Labor Day, gave almost 7,500 rides this year - compared with roughly 2,900 last year, according to county Beaches and Harbors spokeswoman Dusty Crane.

San Pedro Ywca Child Center Now Open
The YWCA of the Harbor Area has opened its new World Tots-San Pedro child care center in a building that formerly housed the private school at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in San Pedro. More than 100 people attended the official opening of the center this month at 1648 W. Ninth St. The center is open to children 3 months to 5 years old.
